Rochester is a suburb of Detroit. The population was 10,467 at the 2000 census.
Oakland University and a campus of Thomas M. Cooley Law School are located in nearby Auburn Hills. Rochester Community Schools is the public school district encompassing Rochester and surrounding areas. The city is also home to a relatively large guide dog training school, Leader Dogs for the Blind, and it is not uncommon to see guide dog teams walking around downtown and in the residential neighborhoods nearby.
The City of Rochester is bordered on the west by the City of Rochester Hills. As of the 2000 census, the Rochester Hills had a total population of 68,825. Rochester College is located in Rochester Hills. Avondale School District and Rochester Community Schools are the public school districts in Rochester Hills. The Rochester Hills area is also home to many local athletes, business executives, and celebrities.
